I was born and raised here. Boise is the reason so many people fall for this valley — a real downtown you can walk, the Greenbelt following the river, and foothill trailheads you can reach on your lunch break.

Housing is more varied than anywhere else in the valley: 1920s bungalows in the North End, mid-century ranches in the Bench, newer builds in Southeast Boise.

Who Boise is best for

Buyers who want walkability, character and city life.

Older Boise homes come with older systems — knob-and-tube wiring, small closets, one bathroom. And the most desirable neighborhoods have very little inventory, so you compete. If you want new construction and a big garage, look west.

Neighborhoods to know

• North End — Historic homes, tree canopy, Hyde Park. The most competitive market in the valley.
• East End / Harris Ranch — Foothill access, newer construction, river trails.
• Southeast Boise — Close to the university and the Greenbelt, mixed ages of homes.
• The Bench — Mid-century homes, great value, quick downtown access.

Schools

Served by the Boise School District, which is separate from West Ada and has its own strong high schools including Boise High and Timberline.
